2022 Summer Intensive

Accepting applications until June 20th at www.blackartsinstitute.org! The Summer Intensive is a five-week comprehensive exploration of the history of the contemporary Black theater tradition, led by a world-class faculty.

Program Dates: July 5th to August 5th, Monday through Friday, from roughly 9am to 5:30pm
Location: The Billie Holiday Theatre in Bedstuy, Brooklyn.

Classes will be taught at the Billie Holiday Theatre by our world-class faculty, and include:

  • Scene Study and Monologue Work
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Movement and Alignment
  • Voice and Speech
  • Dialects
  • Historical Lectures
  • Master Class Series
  • Industry Talks

The intensive will culminate in a trip to the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina! Learn more about this historic festival at www.ncblackrep.org.

* All accepted students will receive a full tuition scholarship to attend the program! Students will be responsible for their travel and housing costs, excluding the festival trip. *

Faculty and lecturers have included: Stephen McKinley Henderson, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Phylicia Rashad, Michele Shay, Sonia Sanchez, Michael Eric Dyson, Jerome Preston Bates, Robert O’Hara, and Camille A. Brown.
